Ice at new Peace River arena not ready for scheduled opening day

Due to an issue with the ice plant, ice at the new Baytex Energy Centre will not be ready for the expected opening on August 19th.

According to a statement on the town’s Facebook page, staff noticed a leak with the new ice plant during regularly scheduled installation. Officials say the plant was shut down to ensure the safety of staff, and with a lack of available replacement parts readily available, they’ve decided to postpone the opening of the ice sheet.

Town staff say the set back won’t affect the Hockey Alberta Power Edge Pro Camp August 26th, or the opening of Champions Health and Fitness’s planned for September 1.

The Peace River Minor Hockey Association will also be compensated for any impact the delays may have had on their schedule of events.

Regular ice use is expected to available on August 30th.
