A preliminary hearing has been set in the case of a Grande Prairie man arrested after an officer-involved shooting in 2018.
21-year-old Raymond Andrew Rodtka will be in a Grande Prairie courtroom on March 18th and 19th, 2020 to see if there is enough evidence to go to trial. Rodtka is facing 15 charges including two counts of attempted murder.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team was called in after a man was shot by officers around 4 a.m. on December 4th. At the time, ASIRT said Grande Prairie RCMP was following a stolen GMC Sierra truck with two people inside in the area of 99 Street and 141 Avenue.
It’s alleged that the driver stopped the truck, put it in reverse, and sped into the front of a police cruiser. ASIRT adds that there was a confrontation and shots were fired. The 21-year-old driver was taken to hospital with injuries to his left leg and shoulder. No one else was injured in the exchange.
The second person involved, 30-year-old Kevin Daniel Turner, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which he served, for unauthorized possession of a firearm and was sentenced to a two-year firearms ban. A charge of possession of a firearm in a vehicle was withdrawn.
