County presents Pioneer Farm Family award to Crystal Creek family

A Crystal Creek-area family has been honoured by the County of Grande Prairie for their dedication to farming. Ray and Laurie Marcy and their children have been presented with the Pioneer Farm Family award.

The award is given out to a family that has farmed or ranched in the County of Grande Prairie for 100 years continuously on land they own or have rented. Ray Marcy says he’s honoured to get this award.

“We’re proud to live in the County and to call the Peace Region home. There’s something special about being able to raise your own meat and grow your own vegetables. We take pride in what we do and what we’ve created.”

The family live and run a beef cattle operation on the original homestead near Crystal Creek which was originally purchased by Ray’s great grandparents in July 1919.

Applications for the 100 Years of Farming Awards are accepted throughout the year and can be found on the county’s website.
