Officials with United Way Alberta Northwest are gearing up to launch a campaign they hope will be too powerful to ignore.
‘#UNIGNORABLE’, will focus on eight local issues including, poverty, hunger, homelessness and domestic violence. The issues will be represented by eight individual paintings.
Executive Director Jamie Craig says the city has a long history of generosity when it comes to the United Way, but knows a reminder of just how deep some problems are can only help.
“In Grande Prairie, there is a lot of philanthropy and a lot of generosity. The thing is though, there are a lot of gaps so some people don’t even realize that this is a major issue.”
Craig also hopes to introduce a new way of blanketing the city and getting the word out. She says they have selected a vibrant orange colour to print on banners which can be displayed on buildings and in high traffic areas through Grande Prairie.
She adds the colour was chosen for a very simple reason, it’s a head-turner.
“It stands out, it draws immediate attention and the idea is, we want it to induce [people] to act.”
The official kick-off event will go September 10th at the Paradise Inn and Conference Centre.
