Recent thefts from rural mailboxes around Grande Prairie has prompted Canada Post to suspend deliveries to some areas.

Spokesperson Eugene Knapik says that at this time of year there are a lot of parcels being sent, and they want to be as careful as possible.

“But we have put up posters on all affected boxes advising customers that they can pick up their mail at the main Grande Prairie post office and we have extended hours until 7 p.m. as we recognize it’s a very, very busy time for everybody.”

The main office is located near Walmart at 10320 – 111 Street.

Knapik says it’s only a temporary measure until the situation can be resolved.

Grande Prairie RCMP is looking into the thefts and is asking everyone to report any suspicious activity.
