Make room for microbreweries and breweries Grande Prairie

Commercial beer manufacturing facilities have been added to Grande Prairie’s Land Use Bylaw.

Microbreweries are permitted in Arterial and Central Commercial and Business and General Industrial districts, while breweries will be approved for General and Heavy Industrial districts on a discretionary business.

One interested party is the GP Brewing Company, which owner/operator Jason Petrone says wants to build a microbrewery between Madhatters and The Keg.

“We feel that we’re in an area between two very popular restaurants and we want to have great exposure. We’re right near the college, we’re right off a four-lane road there with 100th Avenue and we just think it’s a great opportunity for us to make a successful business out of that area of town.”

There’s still lots to be done, and the next step is to work on a development permit with the City.

There were some concerns about odour and security shared at a public meeting, but Petrone says they’re working to resolve them with Aquatera.
