Grande Prairie Crime Prevention congratulates first CIA graduates

Grande Prairie Crime Prevention is hailing the first session of the Cultural Integration Academy a success.

Roughly 20 families that have immigrated to the city over the last few years took 8 classes over the past few weeks that were aimed at helping them integrate into the community.

Garfield Strachan came to Canada about a year ago from Jamaica, and says the information provided during the course was a great way to help families get started out in Grande Prairie.

“The way it has helped me, I feel more confident being in Canada, and knowing how to operate. I believe it will do 100 per cent good for them to understand how to operate on their own.”

Courses covered things like the role of law enforcement in the city, the importance of education and the family unit, and what local resources are in place to help them out as they settle into the community.
