County looking for Capital Assistance and Major Capital Grant Program applicants

Non-profit groups in the County of Grande Prairie are now able to apply for grant funding for major projects in 2020. The county has opened online applications for its Capital Assistance and Major Capital Grant Programs from now until September 15th.

“Community organizations are integral to providing services and opportunities that enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of County residents. These grant programs enhance sports, culture and recreation in our region,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Christine Rawlins.

The Capital Assistance Grant Program provides funds to groups that own or operate facilities that provide recreational, sports and cultural opportunities to County residents. Applicants are able to apply for up to 50 per cent of the total cost of a project, to a maximum of $50,000.

Major Capital Grants help groups looking to make significant improvements to their local facilities or build new facilities. The grant is for requests over $100,000.

In 2019, the County gave out around $1.1 million in funding. Online applications and criteria can be found here. Groups that need a little bit of help with their application can attend an information session on August 6th at the County Community Services Building on 100 Avenue in Clairmont, starting at 3:30 p.m.

To register for the session, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at [email protected] or by phone at 780-532-9727.
