Muskoseepi Park playground set for August 20th re-opening

The senior kids’ playground in Muskoseepi Park is on track to re-open on August 20th. According to the city, only a couple of major tasks need to be completed before it will be safe and open to the public.

“The outstanding areas for completion on the Muskoseepi Park playground include finishing the protective surfacing and installation of the handrail,” says Strategic Communications Advisor Blair Wade.

“These are both key to the safety and soundness of the playground structure. Following their completion, the playground will be inspected and re-opened. Our target date is August 20.”

The city initially hoped the playground would have been ready for the Canada Day weekend, however, contractors were in the midst of installing 6,675 square feet of rubber tiles which will help make the playground area fully accessible.

The tiles, which share the same shade of red as the iconic Muskoseepi Bear sign, was paid for with cash from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund.

The playground closed after the Canada Day long weekend in 2018 after reaching the end of its 20-year life cycle.
