Grande Prairie road rehab project moving into next phases

The City of Grande Prairie is moving on to the next three phases of its annual road rehab project.

The first phase started back on June 3rd with crews doing things like concrete work, line painting, and landscaping. That work is expected to be done by mid-July.

For phase two, paving and milling on 102 Street between 117 Avenue and 124 Avenue is already underway. Starting on the 19th, work will be done on 97 Avenue between 116 Street and 120 Street.

On July 22nd, work will start on 108 Street between 76 Avenue and 84 Avenue. Work there will involve putting in a concrete pad on the left turning lane for northbound traffic at 108 Street and 84 Avenue. The left turning lane will be closed to traffic from July 26 to mid-August. During this time, traffic turning west on 84 Avenue will need to detour at 89 Avenue.

During the work in phase two that is not near homes, crews have been allowed to work from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in spots to minimize traffic disruptions. Short-term closures and limited through traffic should be expected during night operations.

Phase three will also start on July 22 in the Ivy Lake Estates Area on 104 Avenue between 88 Street and 92 Street.

Phase 4 will then start on July 25 in the Mountview Area. Crews will be working on 109 Avenue, 110 Avenue, 93 Street, 92-A Street and 92-B Street.

During both those final phases, crews will be repairing sewers, repaving, doing concrete work, line painting and landscaping. Work will happen between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Weather permitting, the roadway upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of September.
