UPDATE: Power restored to customers on south side of city

UPDATE #3: Power is back on for customers on the south side of the city as of 2:08 p.m.

UPDATE #2: Power is back on at the Eastlink Centre as of around 1:30 p.m. Officials say the aquatics centre will need 2 hours to get up and running at full capacity again.

UPDATE: The power outage cause caused the Eastlink Centre to close until further notice.

ATCO Electric is reporting that a number of customers are currently without power on the south side of Grande Prairie. 370 customers in the area of 84 Avenue, 108 Street and 68 Avenue are affected.

Drivers are also reporting that traffic lights are out on 108 Street at 92 Avenue and 89 Avenue near the Canfor facility.

ATCO says contact with overhead powerlines is the cause of the outage and crews are on scene working to fix the problem. Officials say lights are expected to come back on around 2 p.m. People are able to track the status of the outage here.
