2day FM Care for Kids Radiothon raising funds for neonatal incubator

Grande Prairie’s newest radio station will be broadcasting live from the Prairie Mall tomorrow during the first ever Care for Kids 12 Hour Radiothon.

Donations for the QEII Hospital Foundation are being collected, with all proceeds going to help purchase a neonatal incubator.

Foundation Executive Director Cindy Park says nearly one in ten babies born in the region needs premature healthcare.

“The need in the community is growing, so of course the need for equipment is growing. You wouldn’t want to be the family that didn’t have an incubator there when you needed it, so it is a really, really important and critical need for babies and for the care of an NICU department.”

The goal is to raise $22,970 to purchase an incubator, which Park says helps save children’s lives, like one baby that was born weighing only 1.65 pounds earlier this year.

“These babies that are that tiny need to stay in an incubator sometimes for months at a time, so that could mean leaving the community and being in Edmonton for months at a time, but with having these here, it means the service can be done here.”

The equipment will be transferred to the new hospital once it’s built.

Tune in Thursday to hear more about how you can make a difference in a child’s life.
