Sixteen fastball teams will descend on South Bear Creek Park this August. For the first time ever, the Men’s and Master Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship will be held in Grande Prairie.
“No event of this level for men’s and masters have been played in Grande Prairie before. We’ve hosted junior events before for junior age players but never the senior men’s and masters championships so this will be a first for us,” says Organizing Committee Chair Paul Therrien.
Therrien says it took a lot of work and manpower and almost two years to convince Softball Canada to host the championships here but it paid off.
“It’s been a long process with a lot of people putting in a lot of time to make sure that this can happen for us and we’re pretty excited to bring the highest calibre of fastball in our nation to our city.”
In the men’s division, there will be teams from places like Nova Scotia, Ontario and Newfoundland and for the master’s division for players over the age of 40, there will be teams from places like British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
The 2019 MD of Greenview Men’s and Master Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship will run from August 28th to September 1st. Tickets go on sale online next week.
