Gas prices not expected to jump this Canada Day long weekend

Good news is coming for people in Grande Prairie hoping to travel this Canada Day long weekend. Gas Price Wizard Senior Petroleum Analyst Dan McTeague says prices should stay around where they are right now.

“I think we’re going to see a slight increase at some stations but generally speaking the prices we’re seeing in Grande Prairie are likely to stay right where they are [at] $1.13. Most stations are buying their fuel for about 12 cents less than that and that’s normally the threshold that we see price differences. I suspect that we’re not going to see much of a change this weekend.”

According to McTeague, drivers across the province are paying 17 cents less per litre than they did at this time last year. He says that drop is quite noticeable in the city.

“If we’re looking here in Grande Prairie, I know many people can forget but you were about $1.27 last year. We’ve come down a long way compared to this time last year and that’s likely to hold on for another week.”

McTeague recommends taking your time and shopping around as prices in places closer your final destination could be cheaper.
