Grande Prairie Sport Council changes name and location

The Grande Prairie Sport Council has made a few changes for its 5th anniversary. The group has moved to a new location at Centre 2000 and has rebranded itself as the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection. Executive Director Karna Germsheid says the new name better reflects what they do.

“It was communicated to us that the sport council felt like more of a regulatory body whereas that’s not what we do at all. We help with our signature events, we help connect the community to sport organizations, we help sport organizations connect with other sport organizations so it’s just a better fit for us overall.”

As part of the 5th anniversary celebration, the group has also increased its staff which Germsheid says will allow them to bring two more events to Grande Prairie this year.

“Because of our increased capacity, [we are now able] to host a second Try It Day event. We’re going to continue our annual one, Stringam Try it Day in June, but we’re going to be adding an additional one in January… And then we’re also hosting the Alberta North Sport Conference.”

The group hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and barbeque on June 25th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to show off their new location.
