Life sentence given out in Canadian Brewhouse murder case

An Edmonton man has been sentenced to life in prison following the 2014 murder of a man outside of the Canadian Brewhouse in Grande Prairie. Nicholas Richard Harris was given the sentence for first-degree murder along with a lifetime firearms ban in a Grande Prairie Courtroom on June 21st, 2019.

John William Rock, also of Edmonton, was shot outside of the restaurant around 1 a.m. the morning of October 1, 2014. He was found in the parking lot severely injured and later passed away in hospital.

The reasons for judgment state that at the time of the shooting, Harris and Rock were trafficking cocaine and it alleges that Harris owed Rock around $30,000.

On the night of the shooting, the two men spoke to each other in the bar before heading to the parking lot where a fight broke out started by Rock. Harris pulled a gun and shot Rock twice.

Rock died after one of the bullets hit his heart causing massive bleeding. Harris ran from the scene and was arrested more than two and a half years after the incident.
