City cutting down on bus service on routes 5,6,7

Changes are coming to some of the bus routes in the City of Grande Prairie. As of August 19th, service will be reduced on routes five, six and seven. Transit Manager Steve Harvard said back in May that the changes were being made due to lower rider numbers on certain routes.

“It really is right-sizing the service. Right now there are areas and times and days that we have too much service on the road. We want to fix what we know is not optimal and once that is done then look at how we can make some changes to make the service that much better.”

Route five will move to hourly trips throughout the day with the last trip leaving the Prairie Mall at 7:35 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and Saturday and 8:35 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, with no changes to Sunday Service.

Route six will now also only run hourly throughout the day with the last bus leaving the Eastlink Centre at 7:59 p.m., Monday to Wednesday and Saturday and 8:59 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. No changes will be made to Sunday service.

Route seven will be returning to a school route, with one morning trip and one afternoon trip on school days only. The morning trip will run between 7:09 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon trip will go between 2:59 p.m. and 4:59 p.m.
