The City of Grande Prairie is gearing up to celebrate Canada Day by hosting a number of fun family events.
Canada’s 152nd birthday celebration starts on June 30th with the Canada Day Carnival at Revolution Place. There will be rides, entertainment, food trucks and a beer garden for the parents. That runs from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
That same day, people can head over to Muskoseepi Park at 8 p.m. for the Canada Day Kick-off party. That will feature entertainment, children’s activities, food vendors and a fireworks show over the reservoir at midnight.
Then on Canada Day, the carnival will still be in full swing at Revolution Place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. If that’s not your thing, the annual Canada Day Parade will take over the downtown core from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. More than 100 floats will take part, representing this year’s theme of Canadian Pride.
The parade will start westbound on 108 Avenue at 94 Street in the Hillside neighbourhood. It will then go south on 96 Street, west on 100 Avenue, then north onto 106, ending in the Grande Prairie Regional College parking lot.
The day ends at Muskoseepi Park with the official celebration. From 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities and a giant Canada Day Cake. The Grande Prairie Museum and Heritage Village will also be hosting carnival games during that time.
For those looking to leave their car at home, a free shuttle will leave from GPRC and Centre 2000, going towards Muskoseepi Park every 20 minutes.
Park’N’Ride is also available at the Eastlink Centre to and from the Towne Centre Mall and Muskoseepi Park with service every 30 minutes. Shuttle service runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The last bus leaves Muskoseepi Park at 6:15 p.m
