Plenty planned for 2019 pride week

It’s pride week in Grande Prairie and there are a number of events planned to help people celebrate.

The first event scheduled for Friday is just for the kids. The Grande Prairie Pride Society will be hosting the Rainbow Bright Teen Dance for ages 13 to 17. It will be held at Howlers Lounge at Grande Prairie Regional College from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Pride President JC Rees says the event is free to attend and everything was donated by sponsors.

“We’ve got free tickets from Fabutan, free pizza from Boston Pizza, some mocktails from FUBAR and of course Flip Entertainment is going to be DJing and we have a drag show for you so come on out it’s going to be a blast.”

Saturday morning’s Pride Family Carnival will be a joint event with the Gay and Lesbian Association of the Peace providing a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by the carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be food trucks and bouncy castles at the Eastlink Centre.

The weekend wraps up on Saturday night with the Party in White at Madhatters starting at 7 p.m. The party is open to people 18 and older and Vice President Michael Desjarlais says it’s always a great event.

“[We’ll have a] professional drag show, catered food, DJ Franklin is going to be spinning the night away, there’s going to be dancing, drinks. It’s a whole lot of fun; it’s the wildest, craziest most fun party of the year.”

Tickets for the Party In White are still available and can be found at the Revolution Place Box Office.
