Forest area wildfire danger level moderate

The wildfire hazard level for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now moderate. Alberta Wildfire says that although the area has gotten rain recently, warm temperatures are drying out fine fuels such as grass and leaves which can contribute to increased fire danger.

It says it is also watching for lightning holdover fires which can burn underground and emerge when warm and windy conditions occur.

A fire ban and off-highway vehicle restriction still remain in effect for most of the forest area except for parts south of the Wapiti River like Valleyview and Sturgeon.
