GPREP remains active as fire evacuees continue to trickle home

Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership officials say they continue to address the needs of wildfire evacuees despite several evacuation orders being lifted.

Officials say nearly 300 evacuees, mostly from the Paddle Prairie area, will continue their stay in hotels across the region. Those evacuees currently have no set time table for when they can return home.

Meanwhile, Bigstone Creek Nation and Wabasca-Desmarais residents can return home as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.

It is the longest activation in the history of GPREP, as nearly 1,000 evacuees have been registered in the Grande Prairie area since May 20th.
