A Grande Prairie truck driver has pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving after a 2017 crash in Fort McMurray left one person dead and one injured.
According to CBC News, the crown prosecutor says Tyrel Burton was driving a tractor-trailer north on Highway 63 on February 11, 2017 when he approached the intersection at an “excessive rate of speed.” It says Burton failed to stop at the stop sign and rear-ended a line of vehicles.
A 65-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old girl was injured in the crash. Burton was originally charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm but plead guilty to the lesser charges of dangerous driving.
Burton will now appear in a Fort McMurray courtroom on September 4th for sentencing.
