$35,000 raised through kettle campaign so far in Grande Prairie

The Salvation Army’s kettle campaign has been underway for three weeks in Grande Prairie, and so far they’ve raised nearly $35,000, a tenth of their goal for this year.

Major Dan Roode says that $350,000 is needed for their operations year round.

“Not just Christmas, but for the entire coming year for the work of the Salvation Army. Especially when you think of things like the soup kitchen, the food bank, without that money, we’d be dead in the water.”

They were able to pass that mark last year, although it took until mid-January.

Roode also notes that while the Swan City may be an affluent community, people can easily forget or not notice people who are just scraping by.

The signature red kettles are stationed at various locations around the city until Christmas Day.

Volunteers are still needed to man them.
