Final 25 names for Grande Prairie's centennial park naming project announced

As Grande Prairie’s centennial year draws to a close, the final 25 names of the 100 Years 100 Parks project have been announced.

Councillor Chris Thiessen says he’s very proud of what the city has made happen with the project.

“This one is one that’s going to last a lifetime, and from all the people who have received parks named after their family or people that they’ve known, they’re incredibly touched. I don’t think there’s any better way we could celebrate Grande Prairie.”

The idea for 100 Years 100 Parks originally came from a request to name a park in Grande Prairie after local curler Carter Rycroft.

Some of the city’s newly named parks include the Bill Beattie Park in O’Brien, the Donald Patrick Park in Crystal Ridge, and the Oatway Family Park in Copperwood.
