UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of County called off

UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning has ended.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of the County of Grande Prairie near Sexsmith, La Glace and near Grande Prairie and Wembley.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong winds, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain. The storm is currently located 15 kilometres west of Spirit River and is moving northeast.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall.

People are reminded that strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
