Grande Prairie business owner named chair elect of the Alberta Chamber

After four years as part of the executive committee, Grande Prairie business owner Shawna Miller has been named the Board Chair of the Alberta Chamber of Commerce.

Miller, who owns Subway restaurants across Northwest Alberta, also does work with an oilfield service
company, says she is ready to share the secrets which make the Peace Region such a success.

“Grande Prairie is a really special area of this province, and being that we are so entrepreneurial, there are a lot of things coming up in this region are applicable to the entire province.”

She adds that while many individual success stories come out of the city, she knows the region as a whole faces its own difficult circumstances.

“The unique challenges to Grande Prairie has always been the attraction of labour, skilled and unskilled. Even in a downturn, it can be difficult to find enough people to do the jobs. And being as far north as we are we just have, geographically, some challenges.”

Miller will be the chair for 2019/2020 year. She was also the recipient of the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce 2017 Above and Beyond Award.
