Wildfire evacuees asked to avoid Peace River as hotels hit capacity

There is no more room in Peace River for wildfire evacuees from the High Level area. The town says there has been an influx of evacuees over the last few days, which has caused hotels to reach capacity.

Officials are now asking anyone still in need of a place to stay to head to High Prairie.

Evacuation orders were extended to more communities on Wednesday, including the hamlet of Wabasca, Bigstone Cree Nation, and the rest of the Municipal District of Opportunity.

The Town of Manning and some parts of the County of Northern Lights are under an evacuation alert.
