MLA Todd Loewen settling into new job as Caucus Chair

With a number of announcements like the minimum wage decrease recently made by the provincial government, Todd Loewen has jumped into his new role with both feet. The Central Peace-Notley MLA has had a busy few days since being named Caucus Chair for the UCP on Monday.

“So far I’ve been chairing meetings [and] organizing the agenda for meetings. It’s a challenge, of course, there’s lots of work to do but I’m looking forward to getting into it more and more and it’s been going great so far.”

The caucus chair is chosen by all the MLAs and everyone is able to apply. Loewen says this was a job he’s wanted since first becoming an MLA.

“As soon as I knew the position was opening up I started campaigning hard from the start and contacting my colleagues and I had a lot of really good support right from the start. I think that helped because as it turned out, nobody ended up running against me.”

When it comes to those big announcements, Loewen says he’s excited about the changes and what the future may hold.

“We look forward to going ahead with these and of course, getting the economy back going and Alberta getting jobs back and getting people back to work.”

There is no limit on how long Loewen can hold his position for but it’s one he says he would like to keep as long as he can.
