Applications now open for International Paper community grants

For the second year in a row, International Paper will be looking to hand out a number of grants to Grande Prairie area non-profits. Applications are now open for the American pulp and paper mill’s community grant program.

“There’s $80,000 that IP will be putting into the community through it’s IP Giving Foundation which is a non-profit charitable wing that IP has to basically invest money into communities that it operates in,” says Mill Controller Wade Doris.

During the first year of the program in 2018, the company was able to hand out the same amount to five different groups including the Mighty Peace Youth Society, Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, Benzanson Agricultural Society, Grade Three Ready Academy Society and Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools.

All non-profit groups in the Grande Prairie area can apply as long as they are in good financial and public standing and deal with some of the company’s main causes like education, hunger, and disaster relief.

Doris is encouraging as many groups as possible to apply as the $80,000 will be split between all those who qualify. He says it’s important to him and the company to give back to these groups.

“IP very much believes in supporting the community that it operates in… We really are thankful and honoured to be able to give back to some of these great organizations that do all of this really, really strong work in our communities.”

Applications can be submitted through International Paper’s website. They will be accepted until September 20th.
