ATV use not allowed in forest area during fire ban

Due to wildfires burning across the province, people are no longer allowed to use ATVs on crown land in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Devin Dreeshen announced that the province is expanding them to restrict the use of off-road vehicles.

“Weather conditions have increased the wildfire hazard level throughout central and northern Alberta. Expanding the fire ban and [adding] off-highway vehicle restrictions will help reduce the chance of further wildfires.”

While off-road vehicle use in the city and county is still allowed, officials in both areas are advising against it due to the potential for accidental ignitions.

People caught breaking the fire ban could face a $287 fine, or be held liable for all costs associated with fighting a wildfire. The Grande Prairie Forest Area is currently under a fire advisory.
