Fire ban coming to County of Grande Prairie

The County of Grande Prairie has followed in the City’s footsteps. It will also be putting a fire ban in effect starting 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The ban means recreational fire pits and charcoal barbecues aren’t allowed, along with burn barrels and fireworks. The use of propane appliances like barbecues is still okay, along with the use of ATVs, although the County suggests holding off on riding for now due to the potential for accidental ignitions.

It’s noted that breaking the fire ban could lead to a $5,000 find and significant charges for the cost of any emergency response. The City’s fire ban will also start at 2 p.m. Wednesday. A fire advisory remains in place for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
