Fire advisory re-issued for Grande Prairie Forest Area

A fire advisory is back in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. One was re-issued by Alberta Wildfire Monday due to a steady increase in daytime temperatures, high winds, and a lack of precipitation.

The province says the fire danger for the area is very high, noting gusty wind can cause extreme fire behaviour and lead fires to grow rapidly.

“Residents and visitors to the Grande Prairie Forest Area are urged to be extra cautious with fire at this time. Check AlbertaFirebans.ca where you are and please do your part to prevent wildfires this long weekend.”

While the region is under a fire advisory, all fire permits are cancelled and no new ones will be issued. Safe campfires in campgrounds and backyards are still allowed, along with the use of propane and charcoal fire pits and gas or propane stoves and barbecues.

The area was under a fire advisory earlier this month but it was lifted before the Victoria Day long weekend.
