Update: Mandatory evacuation order issued for part of MacKenzie County

Update #2: A mandatory Evacuation Order has been issued for residents South and Southeast of the Town of High Level and South of the Bushe River Reserve. A local state of emergency remains in effect. Evacuees must register at the Town of High Level Arena located at 10101 105 Avenue

Fire crews will also be going door to door to notify residents of the situation. Barricades will also be set up on all roads to prevent anyone from entering the area one it’s evacuated.

Update: High Level officials through the Alberta Emergency Agency say the town remains in no immediate danger from the wildfire threat, however, they’re asking residents to remain prepared if the situation worsens.

Power is out in all of Mackenzie County, including the town of High Level. Officials say Atco Electric is working to restore the electricity by Monday evening.

Firefighters will begin sprinkler protection operation Monday in both the town of High Level and at the Tolko mill.

The town is advising residents to remove any flammable items away from their homes such as wood piles and patio furniture.

A wildfire alert has been issued as a blaze continues to burn south of the town of High Level.

Officials from the town say residents are not in danger, however, crews continue to monitor the evolving situation.

High Level residents are asked to be prepared if the situation changes.
