First appearance for oilfield companies charged after welder injured in fire

Three oilfield companies are set to make their first court appearance today on charges stemming from an incident near Beaverlodge more than two years ago.

A worker was injured after a fire that occurred as he was welding at a shut in sweet gas well.

He has= to spend more than two days in hospital recovering.

ConocoPhillips was the contractor, and reportedly made workers at the site continue working, and didn’t report the unplanned fire for two days.

Waydex Services and Stewart Wellsite Supervision are listed as the employers, and are also facing charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act surrounding their responsibilities to identify hazards and ensure a safe workplace.

Although the incident occurred back in October 2012, they weren’t charged until October of this year.
