Hundreds of students preparing for annual Dave Bleile track meet

The Peace Wapiti School Division will welcome nearly 400 junior high school aged athletes during the annual Dave Bleile Track Meet.

On May 21st, Students from schools including the Peace Wapiti Academy, Harry Balfour School, Hythe Regional, and Sexsmith Secondary School will compete in junior, intermediate and senior age groups for intra-division supremacy.

“Our student-athletes really enjoy this annual event. They get to compete against each other and cheer on their friends and teammates,” says Hythe Regional School Assistant Principal Darren Robertson.

In addition to running events, students will also compete in the hurdles, long and triple jumps, high jump, field throwing events, and javelin.

The event started back in 1995 as the PWPSD Track and Field Meet but was renamed after longtime teacher and event volunteer Dave Bleile in 2011.
