Students in the Holy Family Catholic Regional School Division have walked a total of 3,266 kilometres in Support of migrants and refugees.
From May 6th to 10th students at the division’s nine schools in and around Peace River took part in an international campaign called Share the Journey.
First launched by Pope Francis in September 2017, the walk was created to get people thinking about others and what they have had to go through. People around the world were told to keep track of the distance they walked and then add it to a final tally.
The initial goal set was 124,500 miles walked which is equal to five times around the world. HFCRD’s addition accounted for 1.6 per cent of the total goal. Superintendent Betty Turpin says she couldn’t be prouder of her students.
“Although they walked an incredible distance, this walk wasn’t about the number of kilometres walked, it was about educating the next generation about the international hardships that exist every day. My hope is that through this experience, all participants developed a new sense of gratitude for the many blessings in their lives.”
To date, people across the globe have walked 119,004 miles for the campaign.
