Canada has officially adopted the Monday after American Thanksgiving as Cyber Monday, but lesser known is what follows.
The next day is Giving Tuesday, which is considered the first day of the holiday giving season.
Tracey Vavrek, CEO of the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, hopes to see Grande Prairie embrace the day of giving.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for individuals if they’d like to donate money, if they’d like to donate services, but it’s really about coming together as a community to say, ‘Hey, we’re going to do a little extra for those charities that are working hard in the trenches to make our community the best it is.”
Giving Tuesday was started last year by a group of organizations, and the Community Foundation is now one of 1,900Â partners.
