The new reeve of the MD of Greenview says he has big shoes to fill but he’s ready for the challenge. Dale Smith has officially taken over the role from former Reeve Dale Gervais.
“It’s exciting [but it’s] big shoes to fill. When you’re reeve you’re in the spotlight and everybody wants you to give them something or fix something.”
Smith has experience in the agriculture industry and spent 35 years working for the province with Alberta Sustainable Resources. Since retiring from the province in 2013, he has represented Ward 5, New Fish Creek as a councillor.
His name was put forward for the job by other members of the Greenview council. He believes his background will come in handy when it comes to being reeve.
“I’ve lived in the area for 38 years and in my previous work working with the provincial government, I’ve worked in the area and know lots of our ratepayers and worked with a number of groups.”
Gervais resigned from the position in order to spend more time with his family. He will stay on as a councillor.
