No sign of hazardous gas found after reports of a leak in NE Grande Prairie

The Grande Prairie Fire Department says residents in the north east end of the city don’t need to worry about a harmful gas leak.

There were claims of a possible H2S or natural gas leak and an evacuation circulating on social media yesterday evening, but Platoon Chief Barry Chorney says that those reports were false.

The fire department, Atco Gas, and the Alberta Energy Regulator were in the area yesterday evening looking into reports of foul smelling odours, but say no toxic gases were found, nor was there any evidence of a leak at any industrial locations in the area.

Residents are advised to stay indoors until the smell fades, the city and the AER will continue monitoring it in the meantime.
