At 10:20 this morning, the vehicle was headed on Highway 43 when it lost control trying to move over as it passed as semi tractor trailer pulled over on the shoulder.

The van slid on the icy road and hit the semi.

The male prisoner was riding in the rear of the van and has been transported for treatment in an Edmonton hospital.

There were two correctional officers in the vehicle as well, but RCMP has not released any information on their condition.
