The Office of the Fire Commissioner has deemed a grass fire on the east hill in Peace River as suspicious. On May 9th at 1:50 p.m., Northern Sunrise County Protective Services was called to a vehicle fire in the hills west of the Twelve Foot Davis Gravesite.

Due to strong winds, the fire spread into the surrounding grass and bushes. Crews from the Peace River Fire Department, County of Northern Lights Fire Department and a helicopter from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry were called in to help control the fire.

It was fully put out by 7:25 p.m. after a total of 3.4 hectares had burned. No buildings were impacted and no injuries are reported. The Peace Regional RCMP will continue to investigate.
