Secure Energy Fire started in piece of equipment: company

A fire at an industrial processing facility near La Glace on Sunday morning started in a piece of equipment. According to Secure Energy Services, at around 7:15 a.m. an operator noticed flames coming out of a oil treater on the site. They say the operator immediately shut down the facility, isolated the vessel and evacuated the site located near highway 672 and Range Road 85.

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership was activated and Fire Master Oilfield Services Inc. was called in to help put out the fire. People living within two kilometers of the facility were also evacuated.

Secure Energy Services Executive Vice President of Midstream Operation Corey Higham says there were no injuries reported.

“The incident occurred during standard operating activities, no one was injured, and the quick response of our operator, Fire Master and the County Regional Fire Service expertly managed the incident preventing any further loss.”

GPREP is a partnership between the six regional municipalities including the city and county, Towns of Beaverlodge, Wembley, Sexsmith and Village of Hythe. The treater remains shut off and is in for repairs due to fire damage.
