City crews ready to tackle phase two of spring street sweeping

City of Grande Prairie street sweeping crews have finished up with the busiest thoroughfares in the area and will now focus on what they call priority two roads.

“Roads like Westpoint Road, Pinnacle Road, and Lakeland Drive and those roads that come off of our arterial roads, that are for the most part bus routes and transit routes also,” says Transportation Manager Robert Carroll.

Carroll says crews will be working 7:30 am-9:30 p.m. daily, but to try and keep delays on the roads to a minimum, the city has also released a weekly schedule so residents can safely remove vehicles from the sides of any roadways which will be undergoing work.

Carroll adds safety for his crews is a top priority, so if you’re driving by any of the vehicles, slow down and give them plenty of space to work.

“The people who are in work zones doing physical labour, doing some spring clean up or pothole patching or whatever, that’s where you really notice the inattention of some drivers for sure.”

Weather permitting, crews should be finished priority two roads by the end of May.
