Firefighters from across Alberta are heading to Peace River this week to take part in the annual HEAT conference.

The first part of the conference will see as many as 64 students take part in two-day live-fire training exercises with more experienced members from across the province. The drills will consist of modules include fire behaviour, confined space training, and building collapse situations.

On May 3rd, attendees will then take in presentations from experts in the field of urban interface fires as well as leadership and teamwork.

A trade show will also be available for the general public to attend free of charge at the Chateau Nova Hotel May 3rd and 4th.

Peace River Fire Chief Tim Harris jokes that residents should not be alarmed when they see so many people in uniform join the population for the next few days.

“There will be quite a few firefighters in town, please welcome them to Peace River and thank them for the work they do in keeping all our communities safe.”

The annual conference is organized by the Peace Region Fire Chiefs.
