Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews named Minister of Finance

Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews has been named President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance. Toews is the only Grande Prairie area MLA to be selected for a cabinet position by Premier Jason Kenney.

Toews who holds CMA and CPA accounting designations takes over the position from Calgary-Buffalo MLA Joe Ceci.

It was the second piece of good news in less than a week for the MLA, as official results from the 2019 election had him win the riding of GP-Wapiti with the highest turnout of voters in Alberta. 80.2 per cent of eligible voters took to the polls, with Toews winning just over 76 per cent of the vote.

Grande Prairie’s Tracy Allard and Central Peace-Notley’s Todd Loewen will be officially sworn in later this week.

The first sitting of the new legislature is slated for the third week of May.
