Oil prices reduce Alberta surplus, still nearly $1 billion

Despite plummeting oil prices, Alberta is still expected to post a surplus.

However, projections are down $154 million from last spring’s budget forecast to $933 million.

Finance Minister Robin Campbell admits that while they’re still financially on track, the provincial government needs to be “fiscally prudent and responsible”.

The price of oil has dropped to $74 a barrel, when it was up around $100 this summer.
