The province put a fire advisory in place for the Peace River Forest Area as campers head to the backcountry for the Easter long weekend.
Officials say, despite snowpacks still remaining in the area, large patches of dry grass pose a significant risk. Those with fire permits will find they’re still valid although new permits are now being looked at on a case by case basis.
Alberta Wildfire says the following items still remain good to use in the area:
Safe wood campfires in campgrounds within fire rings, backyards, or random camping areas
Charcoal briquettes
Portable propane fire pits
Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
Alberta Wildfire adds the advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
