Where do they go from here? Election runners up look to the future

Those who couldn’t take home top spot in their 2019 provincial election riding now face a different future than they had hoped.

NDP candidate Todd Russell who was runner-up in the Grande Prairie riding says his time getting to know the community at large was beyond value but says its time to go back to his full-time gig at the fire hall.

“(I’ll) go back in and reintroduce myself to the guys, as I’ve been away for a month. That’s a great job and a great way to help people in Grande Prairie so I’m excited about doing that too.”

Former Energy Minister and Dunvegan-Central Peace MLA Marg McCuaig-Boyd she says the next little while will be a time of reflection and a deep dive into the long term future.

“You know I was looking at retirement before I got this position, so I’m just gonna sit back and look at some options but we’re certainly looking at retirement as one of them. We’ll see, I don’t have any plans right now.”

Across the board the message shared by those who were unable to obtain victory in Tuesday nights election was nearly identical: it was an honour to run, even in defeat.
