Starting in December, Grande Prairie residents will be able to fly direct to Red Deer.
Director of Marketing and Development for the Grande Prairie Airport Alvin Maier says right now they’re seeing a lot of charter traffic in that direction, which he hopes will transfer over.
“There’s a lot of the oilfield service industry operating out of Grande Prairie that’s got regional offices in Red Deer as well, so we think that that primarily is a great link between the two and it’s a great link into the Northwestern Air Lease’s flight schedule in their system.”
Maier hopes this will eventually lead to flights to Fort McMurray and Kelowna with Northwestern Air.
A flight will leave Red Deer at 7:30 a.m., arrive in GP at 8:45, and then return at 9:30 four days a week, which will hopefully be doubled.
