Eastlink launches Grande Prairie mobile service

Grande Prairie residents will soon have another choice when it comes to a mobile service provider. Eastlink has announced it has officially entered the cell phone market in the area.

The company, which has a production office in the city, has also installed more than $1 million of infrastructure in the area, including its own cell towers to help bolster signal and service. VP of Sales and Marketing Jell Gillham says the plan to add in mobile services was a natural evolution for the company.

“Really, based on a few principles: simplicity, transparency and offering a really positive experience for our customers.”

Eastlink first launched mobile services in 2013 in eastern Canada. Gillham says Grande Prairie is the sixth location across the country and the first in Alberta to get the infrastructure built in the area.

He adds it’s difficult to break into the cell phone business, but he feels one particular Eastlink exclusive could turn heads and, most importantly, customers to their organization.

“We are the only company in Canada that has a contract buy out. We want to make it easy for customers to switch, so we can give you a contract buy out up front to help you move over to Eastlink.”

Officials say customers shouldn’t notice when they are roaming outside of Eastlink coverage areas as their phone will automatically roam to national roaming partners at no extra cost.
